There were very hard times at the beginning of the 19th century. Hunger and misery were breeding grounds for violent criminals. One of the most brutal of them was Johann Georg Grasel, who was up to mischief in the area between the Waldviertel and the Czech Republic. His brutal craft might be “genetically” determined because his father took him on raids when he was a child.
