Created in 2015 by Elon Musk, Starlink is a satellite internet company. Its objective is to bring the connection to the most diverse areas, such as rural areas, which do not usually have access to more traditional telecommunications services.
Here in Brazil, the service received authorization from Anatel in January of this year. From there, anyone who wants to can hire the service to access the internet. The download speed ranges from 100 to 200 Mbps while the upload speed is 10 Mbps. On the other hand, although it is easy to install, the internet comes at a very high price.

How does Starlink work?
Nowadays, the fact of depending on satellites, makes the internet broadband, and subscription TVs have a very limited data connection. And precisely because of this, companies are investing in fiber optic solutions to qualify the service.
In Starlink, the transmission takes place via laser. And information is transmitted at the speed of light. Each satellite acts with four more units around it. The goal is only one: to make the connection stable.
How to subscribe to Starlink?
Before contracting the service, it is essential to know if it is already available in your region. In this link, you can see all countries and states where Starlink internet is available. Below, check out the print availability in Brazil:
As you can see in the image above, most of the Brazilian territory already has Starlink internet access. In the north and northeast, there are still states and cities that do not have coverage.
After checking availability, if you are interested, you can order online:
- Access the official site and Starlink;
- Then enter your address on the line Service Address and tap Order Now;
- Soon after, the page will present preliminary signature values. In addition, you will need to confirm the address where you will install the antenna. After filling in this information, click on Make a wish. In the example below, we simulate the address of Avenida Paulista;
- Once you confirm the order, you will need to register your credit card information to actually validate the order;
- Finally, you will receive an email confirming the execution of the process, with an order code and instructions for receiving your antenna.
Is the high price worth it?
Considering the cost of broadband internet and fiber optics, Starlink’s price is too high. In the simulation above, it would be necessary to pay, monthly, R$ 295.54 per month, R$ 230 referring to the subscription, and R$ 65.54 in taxes. Not to mention that when hiring, you still have to pay for the device (R$ 2 thousand) + taxes (R$ 1,196.03).
On the other hand, if you hire an internet plan from Brazilian operators, such as Tim, Oi and Claro, with up to 400 Mbps of download, it is possible to find plans for R$ 120. That is, almost 3 times the monthly price of internet for Elon Musk.
Promotional price (offer until June 9)
Startlink has a promotional price, the R$2,000 equipment is for R$1,000. The monthly fee dropped 20%, from R$230 to R$184 (tax-free).
Obviously, each one must think about whether or not it is worth hiring this internet. Its good side is being able to carry the antenna wherever you go, and always having internet (if the location has coverage). On the other hand, the cost is very high and totally out of the reality of most Brazilians, who barely earn a minimum wage to survive (R$ 1,212).
