How was import substitution in food products and what did it lead to, August 17, 2022 | e1.ru

Along with delicacies, however, many quite mass products disappeared from the Russian market: German, Polish cheeses, and with them Finnish butter – everything that (as it turned out later) maintained the general level of prices at a relatively low level. And now, if you see even a semi-hard cheese that costs less than 600 rubles in a store (and this is not a price with a big discount on a promotion), then this is a reason to doubt what this cheese is made of at all.

And the point here is not the greed of cheese makers or merchants. They would be happy to sell cheaper, but the cost of producing good cheese in Russia is higher than in Italy. Any product is not enough just to learn how to do it well. This is only enough if you yourself intend to use this product. In order to sell your product, you will have to offer a price that will allow you to successfully compete with your product in the market. In the case of cheese, this requires the presence of large volumes of milk of certain conditions, suppliers of equipment and additional services, transport, and so on. And also employees who, perhaps, will have to be dedicate to some subtleties, but they know what good cheese is from childhood. All this forms what is called an “industry”, which is capable of producing products and goods of competitive quality and price.
