Singles’ Day (11.11) is considered the main date for shopping in China and data revealed by Counterpoint Research indicates that the Chinese are leaving Apple to buy smartphones from Huawei or Xiaomi.

The figures released on Friday (24) show that Apple sales fell 4% compared to what was recorded during the same period last year (from October 30th to November 12th).

On the other hand, Huawei saw its sales jump 66%, something that reinforces the thesis that the Huawei Mate 60 line and other future launches could see the company return to leadership in the Chinese market in 2024.

Another company that grew substantially was Xiaomi, with its sales jumping 28% thanks to the launch of the Xiaomi 14 family. Recently, the company celebrated the milestone of more than one million units sold.

Generally speaking, the growth of Huawei and Xiaomi drove a 5% increase in total smartphone sales in China and this indicates that the local market is ready for recovery.

Prices have not scared Chinese consumers and the preference for national brands does not seem to be related to values. The iPhone 15 costs 5,999 yuan (~R$4,150), the Huawei Mate 60 sells for 5,499 yuan (~R$3,800) and the Xiaomi 14 starts at 3,999 yuan (~R$2,765), but the device that has sold the most is Huawei’s.

Market analysts believe that Huawei’s good performance is related to patriotic support and the company’s history. For many Chinese, the launch of the Mate 60 line with 5G shows that national manufacturers are able to overcome the difficulties imposed by United States sanctions.

Xiaomi’s sales are more related to good value for money, while Apple’s decline could also be due to the low availability of the standard iPhone 15 model.

The Xiaomi 14 is not yet available in Brazilian stores. To be notified when it arrives. The Apple iPhone 15 is available on Amazon for R$5,949. The value for money is good and this is the best model in this price range. The Huawei Mate 60 is not yet available in Brazilian stores. To be notified when it arrives.
