Husein Sastranegara Airport Returns as International Hub with New Flight Routes

Bandar Udara Husein Sastranegara in Bandung has officially reclaimed its international designation, marking a turning point for West Java’s aviation and regional tourism sectors. Led by the Bandung City Government alongside state airport operators, the re-activation brings back direct air connectivity, introducing a schedule of domestic routes alongside cross-border flights to Malaysia and Singapore.

The Strategic Return of a Hub

Now, under directives confirmed by Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan during an industry briefing at Hotel Aryaduta, the facility’s official designation has been cemented as Bandar Udara Internasional Husein Sastranegara Bandung, coordinated directly with PT Angkasa Pura and Injourney, as detailed by detikTravel.

The transformation goes beyond a name change. Local authorities have completed essential civil engineering works across the grounds. Road resurfacing, reconfigured entry and exit lanes, and streamlined pick-up and drop-off zones are fully operational. Meanwhile, the Lanud Husein Sastranegara military airbase command is collaborating with designated management partners to oversee parking logistics and official ground transportation networks.

A Network Expands: From Domestic Trunk Lines to Regional Flights

With the physical infrastructure primed, major carriers are moving to populate the departure boards. Lion Group has announced plans to connect Husein Sastranegara (BDO) with eight Indonesian cities, spanning Medan, Padang, Pekanbaru, Batam, Pontianak, Balikpapan, Makassar, and Bali. Corporate Communications Strategic Lion Group Danang Mandala Prihantoro noted that these additions are tailored to stimulate tourism and business mobility across West Java and southern Sumatra.

As part of this rollout, carriers like Wings Air are relaunching direct services, including the Lampung to Bandung routing operating three times weekly, according to regional reporting by Radar Tanggamus. Alongside these domestic links, municipal planners are finalizing slots for an anticipated 11 to 12 domestic flights, complemented by two international routes connecting Bandung directly to neighboring Southeast Asian hubs in Malaysia and Singapore.
