With the opening arguments of the chief prosecutor for Environmental Crimes, Maximiliano Breide Obeid, and the public defender of the accused, Ignacio Pombo, the first trial for environmental contamination in the province of Neuquén will begin this Wednesday.
The trial is taking place in San Martín de los Andes, where the events occurred, and the hearings can be followed live every day. Today the link enabled by the Judicial Office is the following:
as anticipated black river newspaper, the defendants are the brothers Pedro and Pablo Werefkin; and Julieta Muñiz Saavedra, who was general coordinator of the Municipal Control Agency. The trial court is made up of Maximiliano Bagnat, Laura Barbé and Leticia Lorenzo.
The crime attributed to the Werefkin brothers is pollution dangerous to public health, as co-authors. While Muñiz Saavedra is accused of breach of public official duties, as author; in ideal competition with the crime of pollution dangerous to public healthas co-author, by commission by omission for its position as guarantor.
The penalties provided, in case of being found responsible, range from 3 to 10 years in prison.
