According to his own statements, a previously unknown person lived in a cave on Formentera for twelve years.

He made himself at home there: with several beds, hammocks and a shower.

The man was asked by the authorities to clear the cave.

Rental prices in many European cities are sometimes prohibitive, so why not just live in a cave? Whether the man who, according to his own statement, was in a cave on the Spanish island for twelve years Formentera spent, which really did for financial reasons, is so far unclear. Just as little is known about who he is and how he is in the cave survived.

Last Thursday, however, the “romantic” life in the cave was over. Local police officers and an employee of the Ministry of Territories made their way to the cave, which is located in the area around the Es Cap de Barbaria lighthouse. This is reported by the newspaper “Diario de Ibiza”. In the cave they found a curious picture: the man had made himself at home in the cave: there were several beds in the cave, protected by mosquito nets and a makeshift shower consisting of a plastic bucket. According to the authorities, the grotto was “fully equipped for living”.

Man must clear cave

However, the place was also heavily littered, not only because of the numerous PET bottles lying around everywhere. The man has now been asked by the authorities, including the Department for Environmental Management, to clear the cave within a certain period of time. Because obviously it is illegal camping. He should remove all his belongings from the enclave – and leave the cave completely clean.

Formentera is the smallest of the Balearic Islands and can only be reached by ferry. It is often referred to as the “little Caribbean” because of its special beaches. Unlike other Spanish islands, it has largely been spared from mass tourism.
