‘OPEC Plus’, a consultative body of major oil producing countries, has agreed to reduce crude oil production by 2 million barrels per day starting next month.

With the largest production cut since the COVID-19 pandemic, OPEC+ cited the reason for increased market uncertainty, including concerns about an economic downturn.

The U.S. has a difficult expression on the decision to cut production on a large scale.

This is because President Joe Biden even visited Saudi Arabia in person, accepting criticism that he abandoned his convictions on human rights issues on the pretext of stabilizing oil prices.

CNN reported that in recent days, the White House has been fighting under the water to prevent the decision to cut production, but it has not been able to stop it.

The US denounced it as a “short-sighted decision” and pointed out that these countries are moving closely with Russia.

<카린 장 피에르 / 백악관 대변인> “With the global economy responding to the negative impact of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, cutting oil production is a short-sighted decision. With today’s announcement it is clear that OPEC Plus is working with Russia.”

The White House appears to be concerned about the consequences of worsening inflation with the November midterm elections approaching.

President Biden lauded the stabilization of oil prices, which had once fueled high inflation, as his greatest achievement, highlighting it at every opportunity.

President Biden said he would order the release of 10 million barrels of strategic oil next month and seek additional countermeasures.
