“I will stop him”, the promise and the plan for peace –

Paola Tommasi

Donald Trump can’t wait to return to the White House to show his muscles to Vladimir Putin, rather than bow to him. The secret plan to end the war in Ukraine is very different from what analysts imagine. Trump will heavily threaten Putin to induce him to surrender and will work alongside his current supporters, in particular Xi Jinping’s China, to push them to abandon him too. He wants to put him in a corner like a boxer in the ring, and Trump knows about boxing because he is a great fan. The punch that knocks out his opponent is a video montage that he often uses against Joe Biden, he is preparing an equally strong one for Putin too.

I would choose Putin: Bompiani's last shot. Total freezing in the studio

The first phone call that Trump will make on the day of his inauguration will be to Moscow and he will get straight to the point, as is his style: «Stop attacking Ukraine otherwise I will attack you, and there is no match between the United States and Russia ». At Mar-a-Lago, where this is discussed daily, they are convinced that the threat will work. If Joe Biden did it it wouldn’t be credible, but if Putin receives it from Trump he will lower his feathers. If only because he really thinks he’s crazy, and in this case it’s better to let him believe it.

Moreover, Putin himself said it no more than a month ago, on February 20, that he prefers Biden’s re-election because it is more predictable. And this is what Trump means even when he continually repeats that the war in Ukraine would never have happened with him in the White House: he would have used the exact same threat, while Biden is not clear on Ukraine and has always had a relationship controversial, for many attributable to his son Hunter’s business in that country. The topic had already been the subject of the 2020 election campaign.

The second phone call will be to Chinese President Xi Jinping. Donald Trump has already changed his position on the Dragon compared to 2016 and 2020. If until a few years ago he was a proud opponent, especially in terms of trade policy, now he wants to re-establish relations. Also to displace Biden’s latest positions on China, which are more Trumpian than the first Trump. The words for Xi Jinping will be of the same tone as those reserved for Putin. From Covid onwards, China has done nothing but make itself hated by Westerners, including the constant threats to Taiwan, and is now experiencing the darkest moment in its history, economically and socially. Trump will extend his hand to Xi to begin a new prosperous era without more hostility, but in exchange he will ask Xi to dump Putin.

Every sentence Trump utters in public goes around the world and interpretations are endless but it’s all strategy: if elected, he will follow up on 10% of the outbursts he makes at rallies. The defeat of 2020 taught him that when a populist comes to power he must change his skin and integrate with the institutions. In his first term he didn’t do it and was kicked out of Washington, he has no intention of repeating the mistake. He is convinced that with Biden the United States is not respected in the world and he wants to reverse the trend: if Trump speaks he does so to be heard. He has no doubt that the warning also applies to Putin.
