“I withdraw my candidacy” –

In the Democratic Party it rains wet. A new political-judicial earthquake, with its epicenter in Turin, is shaking the Democrats. The spotlight has turned on the name of Salvatore Gallo following the recent 2021 local elections, during which the historic figure of local politics seems to have played a key role in the attempt to position a series of PD candidates in the city councils and constituencies . “With regard to the Echidna investigation of the DDA of Turin, I strongly underline my total non-involvement in behaviors and facts even remotely similar to proximity to the Ndrangheta. Regarding the second line of investigation not linked to relations with the Ndrangheta which involves on some facts my father Salvatore Gallo, I am confident that he will be able to clarify all the aspects disputed by the investigators quickly”: this is how his son Raffaele began in a note.

Then the sensational about-face: “With regards to the debate on my candidacy and on my figure, which I have witnessed in recent days, I reiterate that I have always tried to carry out my activity in the best possible way and for the good of Piedmont, working on the issues with proposals and ideas, studying and examining them in depth, with the utmost honesty and transparency”, he began. “Today, however, for the protection of my children and my wife and with a sense of responsibility and respect towards the Democratic Party, I am withdrawing my candidacy for the June elections”, he declared.

“Before being a public man with political responsibility, I am a father and a husband. I resign as President of the council group at Palazzo Lascaris, leaving the mandate in the hands of the secretary Mimmo Rossi and of the group itself to identify the new group leader in these last few weeks legislature, connected with the formal requirements for the lists to be presented. My personal good luck goes to the presidential candidate Gianna Pentenero and to the candidates who will run on the list on 8 and 9 June”, he concluded.
