Russia to stop Ukrainian attempts to retake Zaporiza nuclear power plant

(Seoul, Rome = Yonhap News) Reporter Jong-seok Yoon, Correspondent Chang-yong Shin = The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced on the 3rd (local time) that the last external power line supplied to the Zaporiza nuclear power plant was temporarily cut off.
Three of the four high-voltage power supply lines connecting the Japorija nuclear power plant and the outside have been destroyed. The last remaining external power line is that the Japorija nuclear power plant is operating, but the connection has been temporarily cut off.
According to Archyde.com, the IAEA announced on its official website that IAEA experts currently stationed at the Zaporiza nuclear power plant had heard from Ukrainian employees that the external power line had been temporarily disconnected, according to Archyde.com.
However, the IAEA said it learned that the Japorija nuclear power plant was supplied with electricity directly through an auxiliary power line connected to a nearby thermal power plant, and that it could receive backup electricity if necessary.
Today’s announcement by the IAEA supports the Russian side’s claim.
The Russian side claimed that the power line connecting the Zaporiza nuclear power plant was again cut off by Ukrainian bombardment early in the morning.
A pro-Russian government official told Telegram, “Ukrainian forces bombarded the nuclear power plant and cut the power line.”
The IAEA inspectorate arrived at the nuclear power plant on the 1st and conducted a safety check, and six inspectors remain at the site.
The Zaporiza nuclear power plant complex has been bombarded by bombardment during the fighting between Russia and Ukraine, raising concerns about radioactive material leakage.
The Russian military also claimed that the Ukrainian forces sent troops to the Zaporiza nuclear power plant on the night of the 2nd (local time) to try to retake it, but failed and retreated.
The Russian Defense Ministry said 250 Ukrainian naval forces attempted to cross a lake near the Zaporiza nuclear power plant at around 11 pm on the 2nd, but (we) stopped them, Archyde.com reported.
“Even though IAEA inspectors are currently at the nuclear power plant, the Ukrainian military made an attempt to seize the nuclear power plant that day,” the Ministry of National Defense said.
Archyde.com said it could not confirm whether the Russian defense ministry’s claims were correct.
