Interview with Shoma Uno

Shoma Uno talks about his life after retirement See photos related to this article ――This is the first time you’ve done a show with such a long preparation period, including rehearsals, right?
Uno: It’s my first time, and I wanted to spend this much time preparing and showing a single show to someone. In our usual shows, we show the programs that we usually do individually, so even if the practice time is short, it will still work. However, if it weren’t for a show where individuals gathered, but if we were to create a single show with everyone, Mao Asada’s “BEYOND” would take a long time, and I think that’s why we rehearse every year. I think it works as a stage. If I were to do an ice show after I retired, would I want to do it? I also saw Yuzu-kun’s (Hanyu Yuzuru) show, and I think I’d like to do something wonderful with a small number of people.
――If Uno were to create his own show after retiring, what kind of ice show would you like to try? Will it have a story like this time, or will it show each program while having a concept?
Uno: Putting aside whether there is a story or not, there are various other shows for individuals (showing programs), so if you do it, you will be the main one and you will be able to give your best to that show. I’m sure that when I retire from active duty, I’ll come to think that I want to hit something with my passion, so it would be nice if I could create a place to hit it.
Skating is about my number, plus, opening and finale, but when I go to see live performances of other genres, I spend about two hours doing it all the time. I thought it would be nice to try something like that in skating. Of course, I know it’s hard for us skaters, but when I see artists performing live, I think I’d like to try it once.
