TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —On Tuesday, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture announced how to apply for a $5 million dollar grant.

The Resilient Food System Infrastructure Grant will fund projects that help markets for producers and improve transportation of Idaho food products to local or regional markets.

Through stake holder engagement and outreach, Idaho found that there are priorities that are needed to expand, such as co-pack facilities and improving the aggregation and distribution of agricultural products. May of last year the USDA announced $420 million to strengthen local and regional food systems.

Laura Johnson, the Bureau Chief of the Marketing and Development Division explains the requirements for one of the grants, “It’s the simplified equipment only project it’s for under a 100 thousand dollars it is for equipment only so if a company needs to put in a labeling machine or a packaging machine or they need to buy a cold storage delivery truck to help them with their distribution it can do that without match.”

The other grant is an infrastructure grant that requires other qualifications needed to apply.

“From any amount from one hundred thousand dollars to three million and it has a lot more requirements that go with it but it also requires match there has to be a 50 percent match from the whole project cost,” Johnson said.

The application webinar is January 31st at 1 p.m. Mountain Time.
