IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir announced Wednesday that Israeli forces are maintaining active combat operations in southern Lebanon, stating explicitly that no ceasefire is in effect on that front.
Zamir clarified that the military’s current directive from the political echelon is to maintain strategic positions along the border to block direct fire targeting Israeli communities. He stated that the Israel Defense Forces will not withdraw from these positions until long-term security for residents of northern Israel is ensured.
Operational Directives in Southern Lebanon
Regarding the tactical situation on the ground, Zamir confirmed that combat operations are ongoing. He noted that there are currently no restrictions placed on the military’s ability to destroy militant infrastructure or target operatives.
The Chief of Staff’s remarks underscore a military posture focused on the permanent removal of threats that could facilitate attacks on northern Israeli towns. This operational mandate allows ground forces to continue offensive actions to dismantle the capabilities of opposing forces within the designated zone of operation.
Security Requirements for Northern Communities
The IDF’s continued presence in the region is tied to the objective of establishing a security environment that allows for the return of displaced populations to the north. Zamir emphasized that the positioning of troops along the line is a direct response to the need to prevent cross-border fire.
The military leadership maintains that the operational intensity will remain high as long as the requirements for long-term security are not met, leaving the duration of the deployment contingent on the elimination of verified threats.
