If you have high blood pressure, do not exceed one cup of coffee a day

One in three adults suffers fromhigh blood pressure but only half are aware. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Associationdrinking two or more cups of coffee a day can double the risk of cardiac death in people with severe hypertension (160/100 mm Hg or more).

This study was conducted among 18,600 people in Japan, all participants gave information about their diet, lifestyle, health status, etc. “Our study aimed to determine whether the known protective effect of coffee also applies to people with different degrees of hypertension; and also examined the effects of green tea in the same population,” explained the lead author of the study, Hiroyasu Iso.
