IHH Healthcare to cut approximately 380 jobs in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong

IHH Healthcare, one of Asia’s largest private hospital providers, is trimming its workforce by approximately 380 employees across Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. The reduction, representing 0.5% of its 76,000 employees, is part of a broader initiative to consolidate business support services and integrate an enterprise resource planning system.

Support Services Cut While Clinical Roles Spared

The workforce adjustment, reported by CNA, targets business support services rather than patient-facing roles. The company confirmed that clinical services, healthcare professionals and patient-facing teams remain unaffected by the restructuring. According to an IHH Healthcare spokesperson, the staff members departing the organization are receiving support that exceeds local statutory requirements, including enhanced severance packages and outplacement services.

This organizational shift is tied to the company’s ongoing collaboration with business and technology consultant Infosys. Announced in June, the partnership involves an AI-powered enterprise resource planning (ERP) system designed to standardize and harmonize business processes across all its markets, starting with Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore. By harmonizing these workflows, IHH aims to create a more scalable platform for future growth across its 190 healthcare facilities.

Strategic Financial Implications

  • Operational Efficiency: The consolidation is intended to harmonise processes, unlock synergies across IHH’s network and invest resources where they create the greatest impact for patients.
  • Technological Integration: The consolidation and implementation of the ERP system are intended to establish a more integrated operating foundation for the group, supporting continuity for hospitals, greater consistency for business teams, and a more scalable platform for future growth.
  • Market Stability: The company explicitly stated that there will be no immediate changes to existing contractual arrangements with suppliers, partners, or vendors during this transition.
