A former West Point cadet has pleaded guilty to felony assault after forcing his pregnant girlfriend to ingest sedatives and abortifacient medication. The incident, which resulted in the woman’s miscarriage, caused widespread outrage following revelations that the perpetrator subsequently enrolled in Ivy League institutions while awaiting sentencing.
According to court documents, the defendant, identified as a Korean-American man, began a relationship with the victim in 2020 while he was a cadet. After the victim became pregnant in 2022, the defendant initially threatened suicide if she did not terminate the pregnancy before shifting his approach to feign support. Behind the scenes, he allegedly stole the victim’s identity to order abortion medication, which was delivered to West Point, and obtained tranquilizers from a friend.
Details of the Forced Administration
The defendant coerced the victim into consuming a smoothie he claimed contained “special protein powder for pregnant women,” but was actually laced with a large quantity of sedatives and tranquilizers. When the victim resisted because of the drink’s unusual taste, the defendant reportedly pressed the bottle to her lips and forced her to consume the mixture. As she became incapacitated, the victim recalled the defendant touching her body and attempting to force pills into her mouth, which she initially spat out before he shoved them back in.
Upon regaining consciousness, the victim was suffering from hemorrhaging. She was eventually diagnosed with a miscarriage after calling 911. While the victim sought emergency care, the defendant avoided her calls and posted inquiries on an online pharmacy message board, asking what would happen if medical staff discovered leftover pills in a patient’s system.
Columbia Officials Remained Unaware of Guilty Plea
Columbia officials reportedly remained unaware of his guilty plea because their application process did not require the disclosure of criminal history.
The victim’s legal filing noted the disparity between her experience, stating, B’s life was irrevocably changed and she lost the child she wanted to protect,
while the defendant continued his education. Prosecutors are seeking a two-year prison sentence.
