“I’m not from the right!”: the intersection between Rincón and Vodanovic for the continuity of the constituent process | National

Senator Ximena Rincón criticized the reforms that the ruling party agreed to make to the new Constitution, in case of winning the Approval. In that sense, she indicated that the best thing would be to start a new constituent process. “Let’s do it right until the right wing likes it,” responded the president of the PS, Paulina Vodanovic, unleashing the annoyance of the DC parliamentarian.

Senator Ximena Rincón (DC) and the president of the Socialist Party, Paulina Vodanovic, experienced a tense exchange over the possible reforms that could be applied to the new Constitutionin case of winning the Approval.

On the National State program, Michelle Bachelet’s former undersecretary pointed out that the text proposed by the Convention “It opens the possibility for us to start debating with a new form of political dialogue in Congress.”

It should be remembered that the parties of the ruling party, including the PS, have already signed an agreement to advance changes to the document. Among them, reinstate the State of Emergency and eliminate the immediate re-election of the President of the Republic.

In this sense, Rincón assured that these eventual reforms would be “with their backs to the Convention”which was refuted by Vodanovic.

—Vodanovic: It is not against the Convention, but according to the Convention.

—Rincón: Why not? If the Convention told you about plurinationality, eleven nations, justice systems.

—Vodanovic: And that is doing it behind people’s backs?

—Rincón: Sorry, if what the Convention wrote you are changing it just around the corner. Let’s discuss again, let’s do it right.

—Vodanovic: Let’s do it right until the right wing likes it.

—Rincón: I’m not on the right, Paulina! You insist on putting me in that group.

—Vodanovic: Ximena, you are not on the right, but you are defending…

—Rincón: You don’t have the power of the bell of the center-left.

—Vodanovic: Of course not, I am president of a left-wing party. But I don’t like that it is said here that we are going to be able to make a new Convention when the votes of the right are not there.

—Rincón: Yes they are! Paulina, everyone has told you.

Project to guarantee continuity of the process

It should be remembered that Senator Rincón not only made her vote for Rejection public, but also presented a project to guarantee the continuity of the constituent process if you win this option.

Together with Matías Walker and Iván Flores (DC), in addition to Fidel Espinoza (PS), he seeks that President Boric has a period of 15 days to send a draft constitutional reform to Congress.

Through this initiative, they should “democratic definition of the joint mechanisms for the continuation of the procedure to prepare a new Constitution”

Since his entry, the legislators would have a maximum term of 30 days to approve this reform.
