IMF continues negotiations with El Salvador to boost the economy 2024-04-10 02:38:34

The director of the Communications Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Julie Kozack, announced this Thursday at a press conference that the institution continues in negotiations with the Government of El Salvador, in order to provide support to strengthen the Salvadoran economy.

“Staff continues to work constructively with Salvadoran authorities with the goal of reaching an agreement for an IMF-supported program. “Our dialogue revolves around policies to strengthen fiscal and external sustainability, improve productivity growth, and strengthen economic governance,” Kozack reported.

Likewise, he highlighted how the country has achieved an increase in pension spending, with which they provide financial stability to a significant sector of the population, in addition to a significant increase in public investment, with which the Government carries out works that improve the quality of life of citizens.

Despite the above, Kozack assured that President Nayib Bukele’s management made unquestionable efforts to contain current expenses and regularize arrears.
