Immigration office accuses Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia of not “playing the game”

The director general of the French office for immigration and integration, Didier Leschi, would have hoped that the Maghreb countries – Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia – “play the game” (sic) to repatriate their nationals who do not have a valid residence permit. Monday, on the television channel NEWS, he complained of “difficulties” for France, vis-à-vis some, for the repatriation of these people. “We must make the countries of departure, which are often countries to which we grant a lot of visas, understand that they agree to play the game and take back those who do not have to stay on French territory”, a- he argued, a year after France decided to reduce by 50% the granting of this document for the citizens of Morocco and Algeria. In the country, these refusals are almost systematic.

Didier Leschi persists and signs: “It is mainly the countries of the Maghreb and the rest of Africa that are concerned.” According to him, “this is where the migratory flows are the most important”. And to maintain that “the first two nationalities crossing the Mediterranean Sea from Spain are the Algerians and the Moroccans”.

Paris still criticizes its partners for not granting the pass necessary to carry out the return of the citizens concerned to the countries of origin. “However, during the Francophonie summit in Djerba, the French head of state Emmanuel Macron welcomed the fallout from the restriction of visas for Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia decided in 2021”, underlines for his from the Turkish Press Agency Anadolu. “We see that the returns (of expelled migrants) are facilitated,” said the president.
