Fewer fixed office spaces and more space for working together. More and more companies include various business areas in real estate decisions.
According to the “2023 European Occupier Survey” by CBRE, real estate decisions by companies are increasingly taking into account strategies that focus on people and employees.
The data from the current study shows that more and more business areas are being involved in real estate decisions. 68 percent of the companies surveyed stated that areas such as human resources, IT and communication were involved in the decision-making process. This procedure shows how important real estate decisions are at company level.
Involve employees in workplace decisions
Also, more than half of the companies surveyed (55 percent) said they engage their employees through surveys and focus groups when making important decisions related to the workplace.
It was also asked which measures were implemented to implement change processes. The conversion and redesign of existing areas to support new ways of working was the most common answer at 53 percent, 46 percent of the companies surveyed focus on those areas that are important for cooperation and teamwork.
More space for teamwork
The changing world of work has had a direct impact on the design of offices, leading to a significant change. 72 percent of companies have reduced the number of dedicated workspaces, while 73 percent are providing more space for teamwork and a much greater emphasis on collaborative work.
Employees’ wishes influence real estate decisions
According to the current CBRE study, the wishes of employees also influence the selection criteria of companies. The most important criterion when choosing a location in Europe, at 80 percent, is the connection to public transport. Sustainability aspects are decisive for 55 percent of the companies surveyed when choosing an office location, and the gastronomic offer is important for 54 percent. The availability of conference rooms, fitness and wellness facilities and flexible spaces that can be used by different companies and institutions was also mentioned as an important factor.
