Imola sprint: Verstappen against Leclerc in the live ticker / Formula 1

A sprint will be held for the fourth time in Formula 1 history: a race over 100 kilometers on Saturday. The big duel in Imola is once again Max Verstappen against Charles Leclerc.

Fans and drivers agree: The sprint format has not taken Formula 1 by storm. Silverstone 2021 was interesting, Monza 2021 to yawn, Brazil 2021 lived on Lewis Hamilton’s grandiose catch-up race. The first sprint of the 2022 GP season will be held in Imola and everything is a little different, not only because of the new generation of racing cars.

It has been decided that in 2022, like last year, three sprints will take place – i.e. with qualifying on Friday, a race over 100 kilometers on Saturday, which defines the starting grid for the Grand Prix, and the World Championship race on Sunday. In 2022, the controversial format will be implemented in Imola, on the Red Bull Ring and again in Interlagos.

New: There are no longer just three points for first place, two for second place and one for third place, but there are plenty of points.

Winner: 8 points
Second: 7th
Third: 6th
Fourth: 5th
Fifth: 4th
Sixth: 3rd
Seventh: 2nd
Rear: 1

The pole position is awarded to the driver who was the fastest man in qualifying on Friday, i.e. no longer the winner of the sprint. Therefore, world champion Max Verstappen has to be Pole account increased to 14.

We will accompany you through the sprint on SPEEDWEEK.com from 4.15 p.m. in the live ticker. Of course we have also summarized the most important dates of your favorite TV stations for you.
