A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Bosnia-Herzegovina. A rock fell on a house in the south of the country. The quake was felt throughout the Balkans.
A strong earthquake killed a woman and injured others in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In the town of Stolac, near Mostar in the south of the country, a rock fell on a house on Friday, local media reported. A 28-year-old resident succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. The authorities also reported damage to property such as cracks and collapsed walls in Stolac, Ljubinje and Mostar.
According to USGS, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.7 and was felt throughout the Balkans. Its epicenter was around 14 kilometers northeast of Ljubinje. AFP reporters in Belgrade, Zagreb and Skopje confirmed that the 20-second quake was also felt there.
The Balkan Peninsula shows high seismic activity. At the end of December 2020, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in Croatia killed seven people and destroyed hundreds of buildings. In March 2020, the Croatian capital Zagreb was hit by a 5.3 magnitude earthquake, causing extensive damage. In November 2019, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake killed more than 50 people in Albania.
