The mayor of Jaén, Agustín González, accompanied by the Councilor for Conservation and Municipal Infrastructures, Antonio Losa, have visited, this Saturday, the cleaning and conditioning actions that the City Council has carried out in the La Concordia Park pond.
With them, the conditions of the ducks that live there and that are part of the particular landscape of this park have been ostensibly improved. Losa explained that “the first cleaning and sanitizing tasks of the eqtank have been carried out, which are the beginning of an intervention that seeks to improve the conditions of these animals and, at the same time, transform this space to make it larger and more diaphanous, so that the little ones can enjoy it from any place and perspective”, he highlights in a press release.
Agustín González wanted to explain that, with this action, it begins to show how the City Council “is going to carry out policies to improve animal welfare”, which will range from the care of these birds, to a better monitoring of the feline colonies at through the CER method, as well as “the creation of a ‘pet friendly’ seal for shops and establishments, leaving a more open and comfortable city for both pets and their owners”.
“30% of households in our country have a pet, one in three. In Jaén the statistics are slightly lower, but in our province we have recognized more than 172,000 dogs, to give an example. This implies that they are also important for the families that give them a home”, explained González.
“Ghandi said that the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals. And that is something that we are going to take to the local level by making policies of respect and animal welfare, so that the dealing with them is also an indicator that we are building the city to which we aspire”, concluded González.
