In a horrific incident that shook the American public, two children were killed and their mother was seriously injured as a result of the attack of two pitbulls she was raising in their home in the US state of Tennessee.
The mother is lying in the hospital and her condition is stable with “stitches and bite marks all over her body” as a result of her attempt to intervene to save her two children when her dogs attacked them, on Wednesday.
According to the story published by the American newspaper “New York Post”, Kirsty Jane Benard, 30, was severely injured as a result of trying to save her two children: 5-month-old Holas Dean, and his two-year-old sister Lily Jane, from the mouths of the two dogs outside their home in Tennessee.
Both children were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a tweet posted by the Shelby County Authority in Tennessee.
Although the mother is stable, Benard has “an infinite amount of stitches and bite marks all over her body, including her face,” according to her uncle Jeff Gibson.
While the details of how the attack occurred and why the pets became aggressive remain unclear, the tragic incident reportedly lasted about 10 minutes, according to Gibson.
Gibson also said, “Benard’s arms and legs are quite badly injured.”
“So far it seems there is no lasting damage other than the heart that will never heal from the killing of the two children,” one family member also wrote. “This attack has lasted longer than any of us could have imagined,” he added.
According to the details of the story, the two dogs were killed by lethal injection or the so-called euthanasia, and the autopsy of the two children is currently underway.
