In Saint-Gingolph, water from Lake Geneva heats half the village

The damp cold of December did not deter them. On the esplanade des voiles, a few fishermen titillate the fish. In a bucket, a dozen poles show that success is at the rendezvous. Deputy Mayor of the French commune of Saint-Gingolph, Gérald Craquelin greets them before leaning over to observe the lake and more precisely the three huge pipes, which plunge under the surface before disappearing into the depths. They are an essential link in the “loop of O”, the town’s new heat network. Inaugurated at the beginning of December, this system makes it possible to heat all the public buildings and half of the dwellings in the village (i.e. 170 dwellings), using water from Lake Geneva.
