This Monday several cities in South Florida will carry out activities in honor of the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. in favor of the civil rights of Americans.

The city of Miami will hold its traditional 11 am stop along 54th Street in the Northwest (NW), from 12th Avenue to 19th Avenue, which will then extend along a section of 54th Street in the West ( west).

The 5000 Role Models of Excellence program will host its 30th annual MLK Birthday Scholarship Breakfast this Monday, with featured speakers including actor Omari Hardwick, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff and Bahamian Prime Minister Phillip Davis.

The city of Fort Lauderdale is commemorating Martin Luther King Day with a parade beginning at 9:30 am at the intersection of NW 5th Avenue and Sistrunk Boulevard. Mayor Dean Trantalis and Commissioner Pam Beasley-Pittman were selected this year’s grand marshals.

The City of Miramar celebrates the life of Dr. King with a parade beginning at 11 am at Lakeshore Park.
