“IN THE CENTER”: Burgers, gardens, Taliban – Is this what the election campaign sounds like?

Vienna (OTS) – The ÖVP and FPÖ started the political autumn this week with image campaigns. Both parties found themselves in need of explanation at the same time: the ÖVP with a video of federal party chairman and Chancellor Karl Nehammer circulating on social media with controversial statements about child poverty, women’s part-time work and social partnership; the FPÖ with a trip from former officials to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. And the SPÖ is also criticized because of allotment garden deals by some Viennese officials. To what extent is the excitement over the affair among the other political opponents an expression of the beginning of a primary election campaign for the next National Council election? Given this climate, how much constructive political work is still possible in the next few months? And what image does politics convey to the public and abroad?
