The former section head in the Ministry of Justice, Christian Pilnacek, recently died, probably by his own hand. There are those interested in making political capital out of this death. Most recently, a former high-ranking official and acquaintance of Pilnacek spread the word in a three-page interview in the Krone. Pilnacek failed because of an “overzealous corruption prosecutor” (WKStA), said this “veteran civil servant”. The celebrity defendant Sebastian Kurz had previously strongly suggested in his own trial that Pilnacek had been unfairly persecuted – “just like me” was the motto.
