In the video, a lion roams the streets of Mosul, amid angry and sarcastic responses

Social networking sites in Iraq circulated a video clip showing a lion wandering in a street in the city of Mosul, amidst the astonishment of passers-by and overcrowded cars.

The video appeared to have been taken by a person who was riding in a car and followed the lion with astonishment as he was close to it.

The owner of the recording expressed surprise and resentment at letting predators roam free between areas inhabited by humans, endangering their lives.

The lion was trying to escape from its owner, who appeared in the clip chasing him after he grabbed his head and beat him.

Activists on “Social Media” interacted with angry and sarcastic responses.

Some bloggers described letting the lion roam populated areas as a “disregard” for lives and a disregard for the punishment that may affect the breeders of these “deadly” animals.

In another comment, one of those interacting with the video said that “this is torture for the lion by putting him in a strange environment, which is supposed to be inside a zoo or in reserves that contain similar species.”

While one of the bloggers borrowed a famous phrase by the Egyptian comedian Adel Emam: “I am afraid of a dog that looks at me as a lion.”

However, this was not far from moving the scene towards the events taking place in Iraq as a result of the crisis left by the legislative elections, as it came in a comment that came with some biting irony directed at the head of the State of Law coalition: “Leave him, al-Maliki will return him to his cell.”
