Increase in Overnight Stays in Swiss Hotels Driven by International Visitors: Initial FSO Estimate

2023-07-17 13:59:00

Overnight stays increased by 8.6% in June over one year, according to an initial estimate by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO). The increase was driven by visitors from abroad, the OFS said on Monday.

While in June, Swiss hotels recorded fewer overnight stays by native guests (-4.2%), the drop was offset by the return of those from abroad (+22.8%) .

These preliminary figures continue the positive trend recorded since the beginning of the year. Between January and May, the Swiss hotel industry has already recorded a jump of almost 15% in overnight stays over one year. Taking 2019 as a basis of comparison, the last year before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, this represents an increase of 3.5%.

The final figures for the month of June will be published on August 4.
