Sergio Ramos, the club legend of Real Madrid, has now returned as an opponent to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium – as the captain of the Sevilla team. The Spanish defender was greeted in a short ceremony at the place of his previous successes, and then clashed with his former club and his former “players”. Madrid, the leaders in the league table, started the match well, Lucas Vázquez received a beautiful kick from Vinícus, then confidently shot into the net past Nyland, who was moving out of the goal.

However, the action was preceded by an irregularity, Nacho obtained the ball illegally, so the goal was invalidated by the referee.

The atmosphere of the already heated match became even more tense when the visitors’ attacker, En-Nesziri, elbowed Vázquez badly for no reason, who was lying on the ground for several minutes after the blow. In the continuation of the half, Real Madrid was mostly the initiator, the will of the home team prevailed, but they did not reach a goal. Not even when Federico Valverde had plenty of space in the front of the penalty area, and his strong shot would have gone under the crossbar if Nyland had not made a brilliant save.

At the beginning of the second half, Valverde was again the main character, this time he shot from inside the penalty area, but the visitors’ goalkeeper saved again and hit the ball on the right post. In the continuation, Madrid had more and more opportunities to score goals, Vinícius and Rodrygó also had a chance to hit the Sevilla net, but Luka Modric, who came on as a substitute, managed to do so.

The routine Croatian midfielder got the ball in front of him in the 81st minute after a bad clearance, he showed a body trick with which he sent his defender away, and then he fired a pinpoint twist into the left side of the goal, 1-0. This was a real classic solution from the Croatian magician.

In the remaining minutes, Sevilla could not respond with a goal, so the match ended with a one-goal home victory. Thanks to Real Madrid’s victory, it confidently maintains first place in the table, now 8 points ahead of second place Barcelona.
