India lost by 100 runs in the second match of the ODI series against England. Chasing a target of 247 runs, India were bowled out for 146 runs in 38.5 overs. With the win, England tied the three-match series (1-1) (India vs England 2nd ODI).
England won the toss and elected to bowl, but it was not like the first ODI at Lord’s. Jason Roy and Bairstow scored 41 runs for the first wicket. Jason Roy was returned by Hardik Pandya. And then the wickets. England slumped from one for 41 to five for 102. Chahal guided Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Benstock out. Skipper Jos Buttler had a life of just five balls. Buttler, who scored four runs, was trapped in front of the wicket by Shami.
But Liam Livingston-Ali alliance and Ali-Willey alliance gave hope to England. England’s score began to move as Livingstone struck as usual. But Pandya appeared again when Livingston was on 33. Livingston was caught by Shreyas Iyer to give India the sixth wicket. Mueen Ali and Willey’s partnership brought England score of 200. But Ali fell three runs short of his half-century. It was Chahal who showed Ali the way out. David Willey tried at the end but Bumrah ended up in Iyer’s hands. With no significant contributions at the tail end, England’s score was limited to 246. Apart from Chahal, Bumrah and Pandya took two wickets each.
But there was a sight of England rising up in the bowling. The Indian team stumbled in front of England’s knife-like balls. Ravindra Jadeja is India’s top scorer with 29 runs. Hardik Pandya scored 27 runs. Rhys Topley, who took six wickets for 24 runs, bowled India. India’s batting collapse was reminiscent of England’s batting collapse. Despite not being a big target, India got off to a rough start. India lost captain Rohit Sharma in the third over. Topley trapped Rohit in front of the wicket before opening his account. The third match of the series will be played at Old Trafford on Sunday.
