Air India is on course to place a historic order of 500 aircraft worth tens of billions of dollars from Airbus and Boeing, industry sources said on Sunday, as it pursues an ambitious process of reviving its business under the leadership of Tata Group conglomerate.
The sources said the orders include 400 narrow-body aircraft and 100 or more wide-body aircraft, including Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s and 777s.
The sources said this during their conversation on the condition of anonymity, as the final touches will be put on the huge deal in the coming days.
Airbus and Boeing declined to comment on the matter. The Tata Group has not yet responded to a request for comment.
