In Ukraine, the Lviv Faculty of Medicine once again welcomes its students from India, ready to attend their fifth year of studies.

Many they left when the war started and they return now to finish what they started. Leaving would mean losing the last four years of training and have spent $5,000 per year in college expenses without earning a diploma.

“It was a very different feeling, because for the first time in our lives we experienced this type of thing (the war),” he says. Kartikey Tripathi, fifth year medical student. “More than us, our parents were very bad in India because they didn’t know exactly what was happening there and everyone was terrified.”

The University has set up shelters to keep students safe in the event of an anti-aircraft alarm, as the Vice Dean of the University, Natalia Chukhrai: “Now, when foreign students return, we worry about their safety. We organize and equip shelters where students can go down in case of alarm.”

In India, a similar course would cost much more, around a few $12,000 a year. For Madhur Utkarshwho is also in fifth grade, there were no other options:

“We are in our fifth year, we don’t have as many options to go to other places. In other parts of the world they would not accept us, because in the last year we have only done internships and we have not studied as much. These are the reasons why we are here “.

Lviv Medical University welcomes students from more than 40 countries. After several admittedly difficult months, it is resurfacing again.
