India will do “everything possible” to resolve the war in Ukraine

India will do “everything possible” to find a solution to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Indian Prime Minister said this Saturday (05.20.2023) Narendra Modi Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, whom he met on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan.

“I fully understand your suffering and that of the Ukrainian citizens. I can assure you that to resolve (this conflict) India, and I personally, will do everything possible,” Modi told Zelensky.

This is the first time the two leaders have met since the Russian invasion began 15 months ago. India, which has close political, economic and military ties to Russia, has so far refused to condemn the invasion.

A message posted on Zelensky’s Telegram account says he thanked India “for its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty” of Ukraine, “particularly vis-à-vis international organizations.”

Similarly, the Ukrainian leader thanked Modi for the humanitarian assistance provided to his war-torn country.

Zelensky arrived in Hiroshima this Saturday to attend the G7 summit, after having obtained on Friday the endorsement of the United States so that the allies deliver F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine American made.
