Jakarta – Indonesia’s energy supply remains secure despite escalating tensions in the Middle East, according to Pertamina International Shipping (PIS). Two company vessels previously affected by the regional instability have safely exited the conflict area and resumed their voyages. The news provides reassurance as global shipping lanes face increased disruption.
Vega Pita, Pjs Corporate Secretary of PIS, confirmed that the PIS Rinjani and PIS Paragon have left the area of conflict. “Of the four PIS vessels operating in the Middle East, two have moved away from the conflict zone – the PIS Rinjani and the PIS Paragon,” she stated in an official release on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
While the PIS Rinjani and PIS Paragon are underway, two other vessels, the VLCC Pertamina Pride and the Gamsunoro, remain in the Gulf Arab region awaiting safer conditions to transit the Strait of Hormuz. Pertamina emphasizes that both ships are currently safe.
The VLCC Pertamina Pride is on a mission to transport light crude oil to meet domestic energy needs, while the Gamsunoro is currently engaged in transporting cargo for third-party customers, according to Pita. Despite the continued presence of two vessels in the region, Pertamina assures the public that the national energy supply chain remains uninterrupted.
Pertamina’s distribution network is supported by a fleet of approximately 345 vessels operating in both international and Indonesian waters. “The energy supply and distribution chain remains solid, supported by at least 345 vessels managed by other Pertamina Group entities,” Pita explained. The company is employing flexible shipping schemes – Regular, Alternative, and Emergency – to ensure the most effective and secure delivery of energy resources.
PIS is conducting intensive, real-time monitoring of all its vessels, crews, and personnel worldwide. Coordination with maritime authorities and local law enforcement is also ongoing to ensure the safety of navigation and the well-being of ship crews. This proactive approach aims to mitigate risks associated with the dynamic geopolitical situation in the Middle East.
Pertamina prioritizes the safety of its personnel while maintaining a consistent energy supply for the Indonesian population. “We are also coordinating closely with maritime authorities and local authorities to ensure the safety and security of all ship crews and cargo,” Pita concluded.
The company’s commitment to maintaining a robust supply chain is crucial as global energy markets react to instability in a key producing region. Pertamina’s diversified fleet and adaptable shipping strategies are designed to navigate these challenges effectively.
Looking ahead, Pertamina will continue to closely monitor the situation in the Middle East and adjust its operations as needed to ensure a stable energy supply for Indonesia. The company’s ongoing coordination with authorities and its commitment to crew safety remain paramount.
