RESEARCHER at Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) Kurnia Ramadhana said that the extradition agreement between Indonesia and Singapore which came into force needs to be followed by a re-mapping of corruptors who are fugitives abroad. Law enforcers, he said, must respond to this cooperative step to hunt down corruption perpetrators who have been on the run for a long time.

“Administrative agreement documents alone will not be enough. So law enforcement must remap corruption perpetrators who have fled abroad. When they are in Singapore, we can test Singapore’s commitment to the agreement,” said Kurnia, Sunday (24/3).

Kurnia hopes that this agreement can support efforts to eradicate corruption, especially in terms of handing over corruption perpetrators who have fled to Singapore.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, via a post on his official Instagram account, stated that he had contacted President Joko Widodo by telephone to welcome the start of the implementation of three agreements between Indonesia and Singapore. The three agreements relate to airspace, extradition and military training.

Agreement to extradite perpetrators of 31 types of crimes. These include criminal acts of corruption, money laundering, bribery, narcotics, terrorism and terrorist financing.
