“The transition to Industry 4.0 is seen as a major opportunity for Tunisian industry, particularly in the context of the global economic crisis,” said Hicham Abdennadher, project manager of the Industry 4.0. According to him, Tunisia is ready to shape its technological future and the years to come promise to be exciting for Industry 4.0 in our country.

A bright digital future for Tunisia is emerging thanks to major advances in Industry 4.0 and digital transformation. At the 25e session of the International Realities Forum, Hicham Abdennadher, a key actor in this movement and Industry 4.0 project manager, presents Tunisia’s achievements and promising prospects. It highlighted our country’s commitment to Industry 4.0, highlighting its central role in this era of innovation. The projects initiated by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) not only achieved their goals, but also paved the way for a new phase of acceleration and growth.

An overview

Hicham Abdennadher began by explaining the central role of GIZ as a technical development agency that supports Tunisia in its transition to Industry 4.0. Since 2019, GIZ has been working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Communication Technologies and that of Industry to create the GIZ Digital Center in Tunisia. “To succeed in this digital transformation, GIZ is working in close collaboration with various ministries and partners. The Ministry of Industry plays a leading role in the Industry 4.0 aspect, while the Ministry of Communication Technologies contributes to other technological aspects. The partnerships also extend to other important stakeholders and GIZ aims to integrate all of these stakeholders to ensure the success of the program,” he stressed.

Regarding training and awareness, he indicated that the first step of this project was to raise awareness among companies about the importance of Industry 4.0. “The transition to Industry 4.0 is seen as a major opportunity for Tunisian industry, particularly in the context of the global economic crisis. GIZ has therefore designed awareness and training programs to inform and train companies on the challenges of Industry 4.0,” he said.

Hicham Abdennadher also mentioned the creation of other skills centers, such as the Center for Innovation and Skills Development in Industry 4.0. These centers aim to support companies in digital transformation and to familiarize them with the new “mindset” and the required business models.

The next step: accelerate

One of the proud points of our country was the achievement of objectives. In terms of training, awareness and support, GIZ projects have achieved 90% of their objectives, or even more. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the program and Tunisia’s commitment to this transformation.

After the strong success of the first stages, Tunisia is preparing to accelerate support for businesses, particularly technological start-ups.

The country is aware of its technological potential and aims to strengthen its presence on the international scene by helping its start-ups to develop.

As for financing mechanisms, Abdennadher specified that a major challenge for Tunisian industry is the financing of projects linked to Industry 4.0. “GIZ is currently working on establishing financing mechanisms for research, innovation and research and development projects in partnership with businesses. These projects operate within an Open Innovation framework, where technological start-ups are put in contact with manufacturers to create innovative industrial solutions.”

Hicham Abdennadher also spoke of the growing need for talents in fields and professions linked to Industry 4.0 in Tunisia, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning and the cloud. “The creation of international online certification courses aims to respond to this growing need and the funding mechanisms aim to encourage open innovation, creating fertile ground for collaboration between technological start-ups and industrial companies,” a- he further clarified, while adding that Tunisia is ready to shape its technological future, and that the country is well positioned to play a major role on the international scene.national. The coming years promise to be exciting for Industry 4.0 in Tunisia.
