A surge in prices that nothing seems to be able to stop: inflation continued to rise in France in July, reaching 6.1% over one year, INSEE announced on Friday by unveiling its first provisional estimate. In June, inflation had already reached 5.8%.
The price increase was driven by the prise in the prices of services as well as food. Still very high however, energy-related price increases have decelerated, indicates the Institute of Statistics.
Growth less bad than expected
In contrast, growth has been less bad than expected over the past three months : France recorded a net 0.5% growth in spring, after a first quarter where GDP fell by 0.2%. Growth in the second quarter was expected at 0.2% by the Banque de France and 0.25% by INSEE, and it therefore finally settled at 0.5% compared to the first quarter.
This good performance of the French economy in the second quarter is explained in particular by a clearly positive contribution of foreign trade to growth.
