Influenza: the flu epidemic is declared in mainland France

Health authorities announced on Wednesday that the seasonal flu epidemic is declared in metropolitan France. Whilea new wave of Covid-19 looms, thatan outbreak of bronchiolitis hits toddlers hard, it is the seasonal flu that caregivers will now have to face, making health authorities fear the occurrence of a triple epidemic.

“Brittany and Normandy have gone into epidemic”, announced the public health agency France in a review of the past week to November 27. Overseas, the flu epidemic was already hitting Martinique, Mayotte and Reunion.

The virus, baptized this year A(H3N2), is said to be in the “pre-epidemic” phase in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in the Grand Est and in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur as well as in Centre-Val de Loire, the Hauts-de-France and Île-de-France.
