Insights from Bertrand Lefèvre: Analysis of Four Starters’ Chances in Compiègne’s Grand Steeple-Chase

2023-10-28 02:07:59

Contacted by our journalist Stéphane Davy, Bertrand Lefèvre discusses the chances of its four starters, those presented on Saturday, in Compiègne (R-1).

LORDELOUEST (202) had won at the beginning of September, at Craon, before being disqualified for having encroached inside the track. He had had a pretty grueling race that day. He has since returned to Nantes (editor’s note, 3rd on 15-10). That day, I had not given the correct orders to its pilot. The race did not go as expected. We should have waited longer before attacking. The horse has progressed since this race. His jockey knows him. The horse has strengths. Note, however, that it is not a fan of terrain that is too difficult. He’s not the bravest in the stable. Only if he dominates, deep ground or not, can it work. I also think that with the blinders on, he will be more valiant.

PAU CLERMONT (413) didn’t understand anything the day he made his debut, on the flat, at the end of September, in Angers. He appears lymphatic in the morning at work. There are many at the start of this race but I hope that he will be diligent in his jumps and that this race will allow him to learn more.

GEELONG SPORT (709-photo) had a break after his victory in the Prix Romati (Gr.III) in May. The mare has since completed her comeback race, in the Prix de la Gascogne (editor’s note, 4th, September 26). She behaved well that day. Unfortunately, she took a beating, which cost her a better ranking. She came home with a few minor bumps but nothing serious. His preparation went well. She is hard working and has intact morale. In the past, she didn’t like very soft tracks. This is no longer the case. She is hardened. She breathes perfectly on a course. As you know, she is in her garden in Compiègne. In my opinion, she is one of the good lucks of this Grand Steeple-Chase of Compiègne.

JOYOUS DU MAFFRAY (807) is a good jumper. He’s a regular horse. However, he had a grueling race at the beginning of September in Craon. So I gave him time to recover properly. Know that he has gained a lot of strength over the last few weeks. Saturday is a back-to-school race and the field is well composed. Before the start, I’m considering a runner-up. I find him taken quite high on the weight scale but he will then be followed for the winter meeting in Pau. Note that it adapts to all terrains.”

He adds: “For Pau, I envision running Inzeo du Gouet et Kinder du Gouet. The last named ran well in Nantes. Like his brother, he jumps perfectly.”
