It’s been a little over two weeks since Prigozhin advanced towards Moscow with his mercenaries during the Ukraine war. The putsch attempt failed miserably – the Wagner boss was exiled to Belarus. Meanwhile, many experts agree that Putin wants to eliminate Prigozhin.
New details are now coming to light on Russian state television.
According to a moderator, the mercenary boss received 858 billion rubles from the Russian state before the attempted coup. That’s the equivalent of around a whopping CHF 8.6 billion.
It is said to have been about the financing of his mercenary troop. But also about contracts, for example regarding the catering of Russian troops.
Nevertheless, Prigozhin is said to have believed that he was rebelling against the Ministry of Defense as well as against the state and Putin himself. “Being able to afford everything” – he has had this feeling since operations in Syria and Africa.
At the latest since the capture of the Ukrainian cities of Bakhmut and Soledar in the Ukraine war, however, this has intensified. “He was completely crazy,” said the moderator.
The journalist does not provide a source for the billions in payments. According to media reports, however, he does offer a possible reason for the mercenary uprising: the Russian army is said to have refused to extend contracts with Prigozhin’s Concord catering company. That made Prigozhin extremely angry.
