INSPIRATION can come from anywhere, from nature, the surrounding environment, to the people closest to you. Because of this close person, the singer whose full name is Terryana Fatiah Shahab, or more familiarly known as Terry, was inspired to create her latest single.

“My song which will soon be released is entitled Hawa Surga, which I inspired and dedicate to my teacher, Ustazah Halimah Alaydrus, as well as other teachers in my life. When Abah died, some time ago, I felt lost. Thankfully, I was introduced to Ustazah Halimah who helped me see that the way I looked at love had been wrong all along. The mistake was not in what was around me, but I was the one who misunderstood the meaning of gratitude. “So, Heaven’s Eve is an expression of my gratitude for the gift that God has given me, in the form of a teacher who is always patient in guiding me, as well as a better way to see the true meaning of love,” explained Terry.

This single itself was not in the mind of this woman who was born on June 14 1984 to be made into a new song, instead she initially wanted to choose a cover single to be released on the market.

“But, while we were chatting, I asked for time to write a song and Eve of Heaven was born. When I listened to the Sony Music team, it turned out they responded positively and chose this song to be my new single. Of course, there were minor adjustments leading up to the recording, namely changes to the songs and lyrics to make them easier for listeners to sing, but not many. There are also lyrics that I tried to interpret from my teacher’s messages in the chorus. “Hopefully the message is conveyed,” said Terry.

The recording process for Hawa Surga took 3 hours for the main vocals and backing vocals. However, for Terry, the challenge is not in how to animate the song or singing technique.

“So, while recording in the studio, I was coughing a little. So, when I was in the mood to start taking vocals, suddenly my throat felt itchy. “It really feels ‘wow’,” said Terry while laughing.

Successfully realizing his dream in creating work, Terry did not forget to express his gratitude for Eve Surga being finally released.

“Alhamdulillah, my dream has finally come true, namely having a song for my teacher. “Thank you to all parties who have helped, especially the Sony Music team who have been part of realizing my hijrah efforts,” he said.

Not only that, Terry also hopes that this song will be well received and that the message in the song will be conveyed.

“Sometimes people are often wrong in the way they view love. True love is radiant, it doesn’t blind the eyes or heart. True love will direct us and shape us into better people. So, a balanced feeling of love will bring happiness. Apart from that, because this song was inspired by my teacher, I want people to remember that we will continue to learn throughout our lives and, when it comes to learning, there must be a teacher. This teacher is the one who understands us, accompanies our learning process patiently, always monitors our progress, and keeps us on the right track. “Always live with positive thoughts, starting from feeling grateful for the surrounding environment which is a gift from God,” he explained.

Terry’s latest single, Hawa Surga, can be heard on digital music platforms starting today, Monday (15/4). (RO/Z-1)
