Instagram launches Notes and group profiles

New ways to share content are coming to Instagram today. The social network now allows you to create group profiles but also to share Notes. Additionally, Instagram is testing Candid Stories, its BeReal clone.

There’s something new on Instagram! In a ticket they blogthe parent company Meta details the new features that are coming to the social network today, namely Notes and group profiles.

In addition to these new ways to share content on the platform, Instagram says it is starting to test the Candid Storiesits BeReal-inspired version that allows users to take pictures of what they are doing at a specific time of day with the front and rear camera at the same time.

The Notes take on Twitter

With NotesInstagram allows users to share their thoughts or opinions with just text, a first for the photo and video-focused social network.

Users can share whatever they want, including using emojis, with text up to 60 characters. A rather short format compared to Twitter which allows a maximum of 280 characters and even tends to go towards a new limit of 4000 characters.

To access the feature, just go to Messages, select some of your followers or close friends, and post your Note. A note will be visible for 24 hours, just like Stories, and will appear at the top of your posts. Reactions to your Notes will be available in your direct messages.

Group profiles, advanced collaboration

Instagram also wants to promote group content sharing, which has become quite common on the platform. To do this, the social network is testing two new features: group profiles and collaborative collections.

With group profiles, users will be able, as the name suggests, to create a common profile to share photos, videos and stories with their friends and loved ones. The shared content will not be available to the subscribers of the two users but to the members of the group. And the contents will not be displayed on your profile but on this group profile. To create a group profile, simply click on “+” and select Group profile.

And in addition to these group profiles, users will be able to save posts from other accounts to a collaborative collection, which will be visible to everyone in the group you’ve created or joined.

Finally, the last novelty announced by Meta: the Candid Stories. It’s nothing less than BeReal à la Instagram, which will allow users to share what they are doing at a specific time of day by taking a photo with the front camera and the rear camera simultaneously.

Just like on BeReal, users will receive an alert at a time of day, which will change from day to day, telling them to take a picture of what they are doing at that specific moment. Photos will only be visible to users who have shared their Candid Story themselves.

The social network says you can turn off the feature in Settings if you don’t want to take part in the Instagram-like BeReal phenomenon. Candid Stories are currently in the testing phase and Meta plans to launch it later on Facebook.
