Intel Nova Lake desktop processors expected to launch in the second half of 2026 with IPC gains of more than 60% compared to Raptor Lake

Intel’s Nova Lake family has been leaked for the first time in 2021 and, at the time, it was supposed to launch in 2025 with a heavily revamped Core architecture for the enthusiast desktop market, similar to how the first generation of Ryzen improved AMD’s performance. No further updates to this family have been made since, but today sources close to Moore’s Law Is Dead say Nova Lake is still in the works and its launch has been pushed back to H2 2026. MLID also provides some provisional specifications that are probably not set in stone given the advanced time horizon.

Even though Intel has stated that the reliance on TSMCexpected to cease by 2025, it appears Nova Lake could still be partially built on TSMC production nodes N2P from TSMC, or even entirely on the successor to Intel’s 18A node (MLID calls it 14A). It all depends on the ability of Intel’s Angstrom nodes to ramp up over the next few years.

For now, Nova Lake is expected to offer up to 16 laudable unit performance cores (new hyperthreading technology), 32 efficiency-enhanced cores (codenamed Arctic Wolf), and 4 low-power cores. This number of cores should provide enough performance to compete with AMD’s Zen6 processors in 2026, with performance gains of 20-40% on single threads compared to AMD’s Zen6 processors. Arrow Lakeand an impressive improvement of over 60% over the next processor Raptor Lake Refresh. High-end Core Ultra 9 processors are expected to pack in up to 180MB of last-level cache, while Core Ultra 7 models could benefit from 144MB.

From what we learned through the previous leaks from MLIDAMD is expected to launch its Zen6 processors in late 2025, while Zen7 could launch in 2027. If Intel launches Nova Lake in late 2026, it will actually be trying to catch up and dethrone Zen6, not Zen7, so the release schedule of Intel could be significantly out of sync and find itself lagging behind AMD over the next few years.
