For the past three weeks, eight young adults with intellectual disabilities have been working with the Urgences-Santé team, thanks to a partnership with the Fondation Les Petits Rois.
“They have a more pronounced impairment. We have more pronounced cases. So, they need a framework to be able to accomplish and learn certain tasks”, explained to TVA Nouvelles the president and founder of the Foundation Les Petits Rois, Vânia Aguiar.
For 21 years now, ex-model Vânia Aguiar has been working hard to integrate these different people into society.
“Just getting them out of their homes, getting to a place, feeling proud, is like giving back to society everything that society has given them so far,” she says.
Urgences-santé de Montréal has decided to raise its hand to welcome Little Kings.
“We are extremely proud of this partnership,” said Urgences-Santé spokesperson Jean-Pierre Rouleau. “When a vehicle returns home, for example, after a shift, that vehicle must be brought into compliance. So, we have a team of support employees, attendants, who take care of this task, who cleans the vehicle, makes sure that everything is compliant.
Les Petits Rois have the mission of preparing part of the paramedics’ kits.
“They rub shoulders with all the Urgences-santé staff, eat with us, share the cafeteria, so they are already integrated,” explains Mr. Rouleau.
In total, a hundred young adults like them work in companies in Montreal.
“What I sincerely hope is that all companies in Quebec are able to open their doors for our Little Kings, to give our Little Kings the chance to become someone,” says Vânia Aguiar.
