Bundesliga star expresses spicy suspicion of flick

The frustration is still extremely deep a week after his non-nomination!

Shortly after the announcement of the DFB squad for the World Cup in Qatar, Maximilian Arnold (28) expressed his incomprehension about his World Cup failure: “I’m very, very disappointed. In terms of my performance, I can’t fault anything. I think I could have added value for the national team because I bring different skills and attributes with me.”

Now, in an interview with the “Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung”, the Wolfsburg captain, who is in strong form, goes back to it again and expresses a spicy suspicion of a flick!

Arnold: “Perhaps it is in fact due to the lack of a lobby. Maybe VfL Wolfsburg is not the right club when it comes to playing in the national team. Maybe other clubs are more in focus.”

Does national coach Hansi Flick (57) pay too little attention to the VfL professionals?

Arnold was aware that Bayern players would be more in the spotlight. But: “I don’t think I have to hide because I also played in the Champions League and Europa League.”

Arnold had already made similar statements in March 2021 in an interview with SportBILD. The national coach at the time was Joachim Löw (62).

When asked at the time whether he didn’t really feel valued, the VfL professional said: “In Wolfsburg it’s clear to everyone, but beyond the city limits there isn’t that much acceptance.”

Despite nine competitive games in a row without defeat and recent strong performances, no Wolfsburg professional had made it into the German World Cup squad. In addition to Arnold, full-back Ridle Baku (24) also has to watch the tournament on TV. Lukas Nmecha (23) injured his knee before the official squad announcement.

Arnold, who played for Wolfsburg for the 300th time in the Bundesliga against Hoffenheim (2-1), has made three appearances for the DFB team so far, the last time in November 2021 in the World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein and Armenia.
