“This international operation aims to combat various criminal phenomena such as the trafficking of drugs, human beings and arms across borders. This is a prelude to the new Benelux police treaty which will soon come into force”, explained Frans Weekers, secretary general of the Benelux Union.
“We are on the border with the Netherlands. It is therefore a good place to tackle cross-border drug problems. Fourons is located in the center of the Euregion and a stone’s throw from Germany, ”said Joris Gaens, the mayor of the town. About a hundred agents took part in the operation.
