A young man who tried to smuggle pythons by hiding them in his pants was arrested. The incident took place in the US. 36-year-old Calvin Bautista tried to cross the border with three Burmese pythons. He was arrested at the US-Canadian border crossing.
And pythons are listed as dangerous to humans under federal law. According to a news release from US Attorney Carla B. Friedman’s office, Bautista was arraigned Tuesday in Albany on federal smuggling charges and released.
A case of snake smuggling has also been registered against him. In 2018, he tried to cross the border with snakes inside a bus. Importation of Burmese pythons is illegal here under international treaties.Trafficking Burmese pythons is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to federal prosecutors.
